In a series of three posts, we are profiling each of the guest adjudicators that will help select the winner of the Piano Concerto Competition. Here is the profile of Zhu Xianjie 朱賢杰.

Born in Shanghai, Mr. Zhu’s music background was formed at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music where he majored in piano performance. In 1981, he completed his Master’s Degree, and taught piano at Shanghai Conservatory for six years before immigrating to Canada. Mr. Zhu has appeared in numerous concerts as a piano soloist and an accompanist. He has performed in Prague Spring Festival, Tokyo Music Festival, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Riga, New York, Boston and Los Angeles concert tour. He has appeared with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, and has received many critical acclaims. The San Francisco Examiner commented: “His performance was sensational, sensitive to the artist and music, stylishly accurate.” In recent years, Mr. Zhu has devoted himself in teaching piano and writing music articles. He is an Editorial Advisor of the Piano Artistry magazine. His translation of the book “A Life in Music” by Daniel Barenboim was published by Shanghai Music Publishing House. He was invited to give lectures in Shenyang Conservatory of Music, Sichuan Conservatory of Music.
