Meet Lorne, a member from the plucked string section.
TCO: How long have you been with the TCO?
L: Since May 2011
TCO: What keeps you coming back?
L: The people and the music. I really enjoy performing, it’s very exciting. TCO has really improved my playing, teamwork skills and it keeps me focused and attentive. Also, not knowing much about Chinese music and culture, TCO has been quite an experience!
TCO: What instrument do you play and how long have you been playing?
L: I play the daruan and I have been playing a little over a year now.
TCO: How did you get started with this instrument?
L: I took Chinese Classical Ensemble, which is a course at York University as an elective just for fun. I didn’t really know anything about any of the Chinese instruments. I chose the daruan because it’s similar to the guitar and it seemed like the only instrument I would be able to play.
TCO: What other instruments do you play?
L: I play guitar and I would one day like to learn erhu and cello
TCO: Other activities that you enjoy on spare time?
L: Reading, going to movies, and I try a little composing every now and then
TCO: Anything you’d like to share with other TCO members and fans who come to the concerts?
L: Thanks to the fans for their support. I think that TCO members’ dedication to making music and the arts in general is a great cause.
