The Toronto Chinese Orchestra is pleased to host its first Piano Concerto Competition in 2009. This is the first time in Canadian history that a concerto competition for piano and Chinese traditional orchestra has ever been held. The competition aims to provide promising young pianists the rare opportunity to perform with a traditional Chinese orchestra, and to promote interest in Chinese music to youths in Canada. In celebration of youth, the chosen piece is the “Youth” Piano Concerto, composed by LIU Shikun, et al. This is a spirited work written when the pianist was 19 years old. The competition will bring together students, parents, teachers, musicians, media, and the wider community to celebrate the accomplishments of our next generation.
