This is the Toronto Chinese Orchestra’s 26th year! Since our beginnings in 1993, we have been a strong force for Chinese orchestral music in the Greater Toronto Area. In addition to our high quality concert series, we partner with cultural organizations across the region to raise the profile of their events. Highlights include appearances at the Royal Ontario Museum, Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, and the Art Gallery of Ontario, with performances in Edmonton and Vancouver; further abroad, the TCO fosters an international reputation with tours to Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Under the leadership of Music Director Patty Chan and Conductor Matthew Poon, the TCO has been bridging Canada’s different cultures, and cultivating new audiences while retaining our traditional base of Chinese music lovers.

To mark our 26th anniversary, we present a concert titled “Butterfly Lovers” and will feature the renowned Butterfly Lovers Erhu Concerto by Zhanhao He and Gang Chen, a Toronto premiere. The featured soloist is Teik Chuan Lim (China) from the Suzhou Chinese Orchestra. From TCO, we are proud to present our guzheng soloist, Lina Cao, who will play the beautiful Night Mooring by Maple Bridge Guzheng Concerto by Jianmin Wang. To balance traditional with new, we will perform a world premiere of Princess Miao Shan by our newly-appointed award winning Composer-in-Residence, Jon Lin Chua (Singapore). We will have a special finale that will bring together 2 cultures: Korean and Chinese. Madame Su Ro is a multi-disciplinary work for three Korean drummers and Chinese orchestra with audio and visual components that is composed by Dr. Cecilia Heejeong Kim (Korea). We are excited to invite our Honorary Artistic Director, Dr. Chih-Sheng Chen (Taiwan), also Artistic Director of the Little Giant Chinese Chamber Orchestra, to conduct. This concert will take place on June 9, 2019, beginning with a preconcert talk at 7:00pm, followed by the concert at 7:30pm at the Markham Peoples Community Church Auditorium.

We sincerely ask for your sponsorship for this special event. The Markham Peoples Community Church Auditorium seats over 700, with audience from throughout the GTA. We have several options outlined in our package for your review. We hope for your support so that we can continue to share our music with the community for years to come. You will be playing an important role in helping sustain and create Chinese music in Canada.

Thank you!
