Taron Cheng

I am an erhu player, originally from Hong Kong. I have lived in Toronto for 4 years. As a student, my parents gave me many opportunities to learn music. My main instruments are erhu, piano, saxophone and clarinet.

I started playing in a Chinese orchestra in 2008 when I was in Hong Kong. My favourite part of being in an orchestra is feeling like I am part of a family: no matter how difficult the music is, we would support each other.

After moving to Toronto, I thought I would no longer have any opportunity to play Chinese music until I found the Toronto Chinese Orchestra. They are so talented and experienced - I found that I still have much more to learn! My wish is to one day become an erhu soloist and learn how to conduct an orchestra.
